Where there is poverty, it is usually the children who are most affected. This is also the case in the Republic of Moldova, where due to the very difficult economic situation many inhabitants leave the country to work abroad. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the economic situation there has continued to deteriorate – the long-running Transnistria conflict has further aggravated the situation. On the one hand, senior citizens remain back in the country, but on the other hand, children and young people in particular. These “social orphans” lack training opportunities and thus prospects in the country.

With your help we would like to contribute to the improvement of this situation in the country. As teachers it`s children and adolescents we care about most, so we are very happy to support the Don Bosco Mission in their work with children and young people in the Republic of Moldova.

The Salesians of Don Bosco have been running a Don Bosco centre in the capital Chisinau since 2005. They are there to support children and young people, to help them with their homeworkt, but also offer sports opportunities, or simply an open ear for the concerns of the children and young people. Since 2011 there has also been a family house in the Don Bosco Centre Kischinau, where boys between 7 and 17 years are accommodated for care. In addition to psychological care and a balanced diet, contact with the children’s and young people’s families is also an important issue. Since 2015, there has also been a vocational school on the premises, where various craft trades can be learned. The Salesians also provide particularly needy people with clothing and items of everyday life.
